What is the Origin of Karampuang in Sinjai, South Sulawesi?
It is believed that the name of Karampuang was taken from the Lontara manuscript. In the manuscript it is mentioned that the first man who live in this world is To Manurung and he came from Karampuang, Sinjai Regency. In Sinjai, he is known as Karampulu’e.
This village is the first place where the first man was born into this world. This village is also believed as the place where Karaeng (in Makassar society) and Puang (in Bugis society) held a meeting for the first time. That is why, eventually, this village is named as Karampuang.
As the village is named Karampuang. Thus, it is an area which includes as a customs area located in Karampuang traditional vilage, Tompo Bulu Village, Bulupoddo district and it is about 40 km from Sinjai city. In the customs village, we can find two traditional houses which is already exist there since hundreds years ago, the cave of Cucukan which has inscription stone inside it, dolmen or cemeteries and an old big well. These all are just some of tourism cites in Sinjai regency, South Sulawesi Indonesia.
